Synopsis: I take an early evening stroll around Exeter Christmas Market, hosted for the first time by Exeter Cathedral on the Cathedral Green
This blog post is rather unusual for me, in that it’s simply an early evening stroll around Exeter Christmas Market. This year the city has pulled out all the stops and really laid on a lavish market extravaganza. There is an incredible variety of stalls and produce: from German sausages and gluhwein, to Dutch cheeses; from Italian biscuits, nougat and chocolate to Turkish delight and macaroons; from salami to chocolate waffles; from hog roast to crafts from the orient. When department store Christmas shopping has got the better of you, this is the place to come for a breath of fresh air and a genuine festive welcome.
Exeter Cathedral is hosting the city’s Christmas Market on the Cathedral Green this year, and this makes a wonderful venue for the market, with the Cathedral towering high over the proceedings. I think one of the best times is twilight, just as night begins to set in, which is the time I chose for my little excursion. There’s really not a lot more I need say. Stall owners seemed happy that I take some photos, so here’s a little sample of some of what’s to be seen at the Christmas Market.
